Who can apply from Ireland?

Applicant must at least meet the following criteria in order to be eligible to submit a Schengen visa application:

  1. holding a valid passport/travel document

  2. holding a valid Ireland residence permit.

Documents Required

⚠️ The applications for Schengen visa can be submitted at BLS Visa Application Centre with prior appointment only. Please click here to schedule the appointment.

  1. VIDEX application form fully completed including declaration Section 54 (2) 8 Residence Act, duly signed

  2. For applicants under 18: - at least one parent must be present when the application is made - - birth certificate or proof of guardianship

    recent letter from school, signed

    passports of all guardians and Irish residence permit

    For minors travelling alone or with only one parent: written consent to the intended journey, signed by all guardians and certified by notary public or Garda

  3. Valid passport – original

    • Signed by the holder

    • with at least two consecutive blank pages

    • valid for at least 90 days beyond the return date of the trip to the Schengen Area

    • issued within the last 10 years

  4. 1 copy of the passport, including all pages with entries/visas

  5. Irish re-entry visa or Irish residence permit (IRP) – valid for at least 1 month beyond the intended departure from the Schengen area (original + copy)

  6. 1 biometric passport photo (35x45mm), not older than six months with a bright background and frontal view of the face. Digitally altered passport pictures will not be accepted.

  7. Travel itinerary: flight reservations (intended or booked flights) or train/ ferry tickets

  8. Proof of accommodation:  confirmed hotel/hostel/B&B reservation(s) or other lodgings covering the whole duration of your stay in Germany and, if applicable, in other Schengen countries  Names of all applicants must be shown on the reservation If you booked a tour: booking confirmation or any other appropriate document, e.g. travel plan if you are going on a school trip: letter from the school confirming the trip

  9. Proof of funds for the trip:  bank statements of the last 3 months  last 3 pay slips or  sponsorship letter by a 3rd party, copy of the sponsor’s passport, a recent bank statement or pay slip

  10. Proof of occupation:  employed: work permit or employers’ letter (not older than 30 days)  self - employed: your company’s registration certificate  students: a recent letter from your university/college/school + if applicable, proof of (part-time) employment (not older than 30 days)  pensioners: pension booklet  unemployed: permission of your local social welfare office of your trip + proof of the weekly/monthly social welfare payments  Au-Pair: valid au-pair contract

  11. Travel insurance:  in the name of the applicant, valid for the Schengen area + the whole duration of the first planned trip  minimum coverage of 30,000, - € + sports coverage if applicable  cover for COVID 19 should not be excluded

  12. Proof of address: for example, a household utility bill or a bank statement (not older than 2 weeks)

Step 1 - Verify which visa category you need to apply for

Step 2 – Prepare your visa application

Please fill the schengen , national Videx application form and arrange your documents as per checklist.

Step 3 – Submit your visa application

You can submit your visa application (Schengen visa and National visa) at BLS Visa Application Centre with prior appointment.

For applicants under 18:

  • birth certificate or proof of guardianship

  • recent letter from school, signed

  • passports of all guardians and Irish residence permit

For minors travelling alone or with only one parent:

  • written consent to the intended journey, signed by all guardians and certified by notary public or Garda

For applications of minors (under 18), at least one parent must be present when the application is made.

Due to local specificities, the handling and processing of applications may vary slightly among the German Missions involved. Your application will not be accepted if the appointment is made under the incorrect jurisdiction.

Step 4 – Biometrics enrolment

You would be required to give biometrics at the time of submission of your application in the BLS visa application centre.

Following are exempted from giving biometrics:

  • Children below the age of 12 years

  • If biometrics have been given in last 59 months

  • If you have temporary injuries on your finger, you are advised to wait until your injuries have been healed

Step 5 – Payment of fees

You would be required to make the payment of visa fee, service fee (if not already paid at the time of appointment scheduling) & fee for optional service(s) if availed at the time of submission.

Visa fees can be paid in cash or by credit card.

Step 6 – Status tracking of your application

Your application will be sent to the competent authorities for decision making. The status of the application can be tracked through our website or you can avail SMS service. You will receive SMS alerts on the registered mobile number.

Step 7 – Collection of your passport

You can collect your passport from BLS visa application centre where the application was submitted or opt for courier at the time of submission for delivery of your passport at your desired address.

If you wish to collect your passport from the BLS Visa Application Centre, please bring the following documents:

  • Original receipt

  • Passport photocopy

  • In case of travel agent or representative, authorization letter from the customer

  • ID proof of the representative or travel agent

Processing Time

The regular processing time for a Schengen visa is 15 calendar days according to the Schengen Visa Code. The visa office of the German Embassy Dublin usually decides on complete applications within 15 calendar days of receipt at the visa office (not after submission to BLS International). However, in some cases, the processing time might be longer, for example, if your documents need to be checked more thoroughly or you are asked to submit additional documents.
