Who Can Apply from the UK?

Legal status in the UK: Passports, travel documents and residence cards must have a validity of at least three months beyond the last day of your trip in the Schengen Area.

Documents Required

  1. Application form

    Application form should be filled in online using Latin characters. To fill the application form click here

    After the Application form is filled you need to print it and put your signatures (section 37 and the bottom part of the 4th page). If the documents are submitted for minor children one of the parents signs the child’s application form.

  2. Photograph (one)

    • Colored one with the light background with the dimensions of 35 x 45 mm;

    • Photo should be made not earlier than 6 months before documents submission;

    • Face image should occupy 70-80% of the photo.

    • The photo should be glued at the Application form.

  3. Passport and the copy of the pages in duplicate with personal data.

    • passport (travel document) should be valid minimum 3 month after visa expiry date;

    • should be issued during past ten years;

    • should contain minimum 2 blank visa pages aimed.

  4. UK Residence permit and Share Code – Original and Copy

    It is mandatory to bring the printout of the share code from the website in addition to UK Residence permit, endorsed in the passport or issued as a Biometrics card, must be valid for at least 90 days beyond the return date of the trip to the Schengen Area; C type visitor visa (see here) is not acceptable.

  5. Travel Medical Insurance

    • Travel Medical Insurance, which shall cover the entire period of the intended stay, be valid for all Schengen States and cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay. The minimum coverage must be 30.000 EUR.

    If a bank covers you while abroad, a recent letter from the bank stating that the above conditions are fulfilled must be provided.

    Please be advised that the 'E111-form' or its successor, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), is not an adequate travel insurance.

    If an Applicant requests for multi-entry visa it’s acceptable to submit adequate and valid travel medical insurance covering the period of their first intended visit.

  6. Proof of employment

    • General employment: recent (not older than one month), official and signed original letter from employer (headed letter with name, position of signatory and date of issue, address, recent telephone number and registration number in the United Kingdom) and payslips for the last 3 months. Please note contracts of employment are not accepted.

    • Self-employment. Recent original letter from accountant, banker or solicitor (official headed letter with name, date of issue, address, recent telephone number and position of signatory and registration number in the United Kingdom) stating self-employment or business ownership in the United Kingdom, and - letter from the tax authorities.

    • Students. Recent (not older than one month), official and signed original letter from United Kingdom school, college or university stating date of issue, name of the applicant and type of studies and number of lessons (hours) per week and attendance record.

    • Unemployed. Social benefit entitlement letter.

  7. Bank Statement

    Last 3 months current account UK bank statement (original and copy) in your name and address showing details and a balance proving that you have sufficient means of subsistence both for the duration of the intended stay and for the return to the United Kingdom or your country of origin, amounting to a minimum of € 40 (approx. GBP 34) per day or - traveller’s cheques showing the same as above.

  8. Proof of confirmed and fully paid tickets (To & Return)

    Proof of confirmed and fully paid tickets to the United Kingdom or to the country of final destination. If travelling by car, ferry tickets must be fully paid and showing all ports of entry and re-entry. Originals and copies of car registration and insurance documents must also be provided. If traveling among multiple Schengen countries, travel tickets are mandatory between every border;

  9. Minor children:

    • Original birth certificate and its copy;

    • Original parent’s passports and their copies (ID page only);

    • A letter of consent signed by both parents, authorising the child to travel;

    • In case a minor child leaves the country and is accompanied by any other person except for parents/ guardians the original and a copy of notarized consent signed by both parents or guardians is attached to the documents. If a child has only one parent or guardian, the confirming documents are provided (for instance, death certificate of another parent, single parent document, etc.).

  10. Document to prove the purpose of travel - Tourism/Other private visits:

    Confirmed hotel booking in your name for full stay in the Schengen area or any other appropriate document stating the planned accommodation. If the applicant’s name is not mentioned on the accommodation reservation, then a joint travel confirmation letter, signed and dated by the person whose name is on the reservation, must also be provided along with a photocopy of that same person’s passport/ID card + passport signature page, if signature is not on passport’s bio page.

  • Pay the Fees: Once you have made your application, you will need to pay your visa application fee. If you download the form to print and bring to the Visa Application Centre, payment will be made at the time of your appointment. You can pay the visa fee at the visa application centre

  • Submit Application: Attend the appointment at the visa center, submit your documents, and provide biometrics.

  • Track your application (Stay informed about the progress of your application)

  • Collect your passport: After a visa application decision has been made, you can pick up your passport from the Visa Application Centre or have your passport returned to you by courier for an additional fee.

    • When collecting your documents yourself, please bring:

      • your valid ID; and

      • the receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre.

    • When sending someone else to collect them, please bring:

      • a letter of authorization signed by you;

      • a copy of your valid ID;

      • the valid ID of the person collecting for you; and

      • the receipt issued to you by the Visa Application Centre.

Processing Time

Schengen short stay visas can only be processed within 15 calendar days (Excluding day of submission at VFS). The processing time can exceed the above mentioned period up to 30 days and, exceptionally, 60 days, if your application needs further scrutiny or if you need to submit additional documents.

A Schengen Member State may require that the central authorities of other Member States consult its central authorities when dealing with applications submitted by nationals of specific third countries or a list of specific categories of such nationals.

IMPORTANT! Having a visa does not automatically entitle you to entry. Visa holders must present evidence at the external border that they comply with the entry conditions set out in Article 6 of the Schengen Borders Code.
