Who Can Apply from the UAE?

Applicant must at least meet the following criteria in order to be eligible to submit a Schengen visa application:

  1. holding a valid passport/travel document

  2. holding a valid UAE residence permit. In case applicant holds a visit stay visa for UAE, a C type visa, then applicant needs to apply for a Schengen visa from his/her country of residence

  3. applying for a short stay visa: Tourist (including Minors), Visitor Family/Friends, Business, EEA/EU and Swiss national family member or Airport Transit

Visa Types

  • Short Stay Visa Business

    • Tourist

    • Visiting Family and Friends

    • Attending Cultural Or Sports events or Conferences

    • Spouses of Latvian Nationals Visiting Family and Friends

  • Long Term D Category Visa

Documents Required

Fully completed and signed online application form (signed by both parents in case of minors,below the age of 18.) Click here for the online application form.

  1. Two recent passport size photographs (Not older than 3 months, size: 3,5 - 4,5 cm, white background and neutral expression necessary, no head or face covering acceptable except for religious reasons; please do not staple.

  2. Original passport with UAE residence permit and the Emirati ID card, all valid for at least three months longer than the intended stay. The passport must have been issued within the last 10 years, must be in a good shape and have at least 2 empty pages. The applicant needs to provide a photocopy of the identity page of the passport, the UAE residence permit and any previous Schengen visas from the last 3 years. Copy of the UAE residence card needs to be provided.

  3. Letter from an employer and /or a sponsor stating designation, date of employment, and salary, the period of stay, purpose of visit, and financial arrangements shall also be mentioned. The letter must have an original signature and a stamp.

  4. If the applicant is an owner of a company or a partner, copy of the Company Trade License should be presented.

  5. Housewives and minors should provide Non-Objection Letter from their sponsor as well assponsor’s passport and visa copy, salary certificate and current bank account statement.

  6. Proof of sufficient financial means to cover the period of your intended stay - a bank statement for the last six months showing regular income. The original bank statement must show the applicant’s name, and be stamped and signed by the bank’s representative. Please note that cash will not be accepted as a proof offunds

  7. Valid flight ticket reservation (including the return trip, the original ticket may be required at thecollection of the visa);

  8. Proof of accommodation for the whole duration of the intended stay in the Schengen area:

    • Confirmed hotel reservation. The confirmation needs to be issued directly by thehotel/guesthouse and clearly state the visa applicant´s full name, dates of accommodation, the hotel address and contact details;

    • Or Invitation by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs;

    • Or Invitation from the host (company, friends, family, etc.) indicating the address of accommodation.

  9. Travel insurance certificate is valid in all Schengen countries, covering the whole period of stay, including the information on Terms and Conditions. The insurance should cover all medical expenses including emergency hospital treatment and repatriation for the period ofyour stay in the Schengen area (coverage at least 30.000 EUR). The travel insurance certificate shall be signed and stamped by the insurancecompany representative.

Step-by-Step Guide to the Application Process

  1. Identify visa type (Choose the right visa for your trip).

  2. Begin your application (Get started with your visa application). Once you are ready to apply, you can download the visa application form , complete it, print the complete form and bring it with you to the Visa Application Centre (together with the documents required for the Visa category chosen) for submission.

  3. Prepare Documents: Ensure all required documents are ready and properly organized.

  4. Book an Appointment:

  • Once you’ve booked your appointment, you’ll receive an appointment confirmation email along with the letter of appointment.

  • If you are part of a family or group, you’ll have to book individual appointments for each member of the family or group.

  1. Pay your fees: Once you have made your application, you will need to pay your visa application fee. If you download the form to print and bring to the Visa Application Centre, payment will be made at the time of your appointment. You will need to pay the visa fee at the Visa Application Centre in cash or credit card visa application centre

  2. Submit Application: Submit your visa application with all the required documents at the scheduled time of your appointment.

  3. Track your application (Stay informed about the progress of your application)

  4. Collect your passport: After a visa application decision has been made, you can pick up your passport from the Visa Application Centre or have your passport returned to you by courier for an additional fee.

  • Collecting your passport in person: bring the receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre and a form of Government identification. If permitted you may be able to send a representative to collect your passport; they will need to present a letter of authorization signed by you, bring the receipt issued to you by the Visa Application Centre and their Government identification.

  • Please check the Visa Application Centre opening time for the options available to collect your documents .

Processing Time

The minimum processing time of a visa application is 15 calendar days, so applicants are advised to leave enough time - between the appointment date and travel date - for the Embassy to process their visa application; no guarantees can be given on the visa application’s return date as delays may occur.

For certain nationalities (see list here) the visa application needs consultation from the other Schengen countries and therefore the minimum processing time takes 15 working days.
