Who Can Apply from the UK?

Legal status in the UK: Passports, travel documents and residence cards must have a validity of at least three months beyond the last day of your trip in the Schengen Area. In order to apply, you must be resident in the Consular district: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Channel Islands, Gibraltar and South Georgia & Sandwich Islands. Please note that applicants not residing in the mentioned area or holders of a UK C-visit visa are not eligible to apply.

Visa Types

Schengen visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days in a period of 180 days in the Schengen countries. Switzerland must be your main travel destination. Short-stay visa applications are submitted at Swiss Visa Centre upon appointment.

National visa (D type visa) is applicable for a stay of more than 90 days in Switzerland. Long-stay visa applications are submitted at Swiss Embassy upon appointment.

For an appointment Visa D such as, Studies, Family reunion, Marriage preparation or Work permit, please contact: london.visa@eda.admin.ch with following information:

  • Copy of passport;

  • Copy of British Residence Permit BRP;

  • The purpose of long stay in Switzerland;

  • And/or the authorisation letter from the migration office in Switzerland.

Documents Required

Tourism - Short stay (less than 90 days)

You wish to go to Switzerland for a tourist visit and will stay no longer than 90 days.

  1. One completed application form (duly signed by the applicant)

  2. One photograph passport-size (Not more than 6 months old, undamaged, background must be light and plain)

  3. Passport (original) and copy of passport (including the signature page)

    1. Issued within the past 10 years

    2. Valid for more than 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa

    3. Two blank visa pages (the pages do not need to be consecutive)

  4. UK residence permit (original) and copy of UK residence permit

    1. Valid for more than one month from the day you exit the Schengen area

    2. Share code from the Home Office stating your status in the UK must be provided and is mandatory

  5. Visa fee: Card payments only (American Express not accepted)

  6. Proof of sufficient funds

    1. UK bank account statements dated with name, account number and indicating last balance

      1. Not more than one week old, covering at least the past 3 months

      2. Online statements are accepted, provided that the name of the account holder and account details are shown

    2. If the applicant is financially supported by a third party

      1. Sponsor’s bank account statements

      2. Employment letter of sponsor

      3. A statement of willingness to support the applicant (including travel dates)

  7. Travel arrangements

    1. Hotel booking with applicant’s name and booking confirmation Number

      2. Package tour confirmation with applicant’s name as guest by travel agent including receipt confirming payment

    2. Transport documentation with applicant’s name and booking confirmation number

      1. by plane: confirmed booking

      2. by train: rail ticket

    3. Confirmed reservation of return ticket to the UK or onward travel such as confirmed overseas ticket

      1. If travelling between Schengen countries, all means of transport and accommodation must be provided during your stay in the Schengen area

  8. Travel insurance from a UK or Schengen based company

  • Confirmation or coversheet including:

  • First name, surname and date of birth of applicant

  • Coverage for all Schengen member states and total duration of intended stay (including all Schengen countries!)

  • Minimum coverage of €30,000 for emergency medical expenses and repatriation costs

  • Letterhead with the address and contact details of the insurance company

  • If covered by your bank please provide a recent letter not more than one month old confirming all above-mentioned insurance details

    • Employed: Letter of employment (dated, not more than one week old) including:

      • Company letterhead

    • Self-assessment form edited by HM Revenue & Customs

  • Domestic employees (dated, not more than one week old)

  • Students: Confirmation of enrolment from institution in the UK (dated, not more than one week old) including:

    • Original wet or electronic signature (it must be clearly stated if the letter cannot be signed by hand)

    • Name and term address of applicant

    • Name of the degree/course of studies

    • Start date and expected end date of the course

  • In receipt of benefits or pension scheme:

    • Official letter, dated, not more than one month old

  1. Minors

    • Visa application form for minors must be duly signed by both of the applicant’s parents. If one of the parents is abroad, a dated and signed letter of consent with a copy of the passport must be submitted:

    • Birth certificate

    • British school certificate (recent)

    • For minors travelling alone or with only one parent (exceptions are made if one parent has sole custody or a residence order for the child):

      • Original or certified copy of passports of both parents

      • Proof of consent of parental authority, or legal guardian from both parents.

    • In case of sole custody:

      • Birth certificate mentioning one parent

      • Death certificate of absent parent or court ruling

  3. Personal Data Input The system will prompt you to enter some personal details in order to correctly process your specific visa application. If you are a member of a group of people applying for a visa together, please indicate on your application the names of those accompanying you.

  4. Online Appointment Booking

    1. ⚠ Attention: Visa applications must be submitted to TLScontact at the earliest 6 months and at the latest 15 days before the date of travel.

    2. Choose a date and time of your convenience to submit your application at our Visa Application Centre. Do not forget to print out your notification as it will be required at our welcome area.

  5. Prepare Your Application Materials

    1. Do not forget to print and complete the Schengen form which corresponds to your application and visa type. Be sure to complete the form in black ink and in capital letters. The form should be signed by the applicant in person, the representative for document submission has no right to sign on form.

    2. ⚠ Attention: All submitted documents have to be printed double-sided and all applicants have to provide a printed Share-Code.

    3. Travel Insurance that is 100% compliant with the Schengen requirements is mandatory for your visa application.

    4. You must attend your appointment with all your documents printed and complying with the list of requirements from the Switzerland Embassy. We do not authorise applicants to print documents at the visa centre during and after the submission of their application.

  6. Application Submission
